Persuasive Speeches

The time has come for .... drum roll.... the school speech competition. This year speeches need to be persuasive. The theme for the year 5/6s is 'Healthy Lifestyle Choices'. Every speech needs to persuade the audience to change or improve their lifestyle.

This term in our class we have been looking at persuasive writing techniques in writing.

We have been looking at our topic of Hauora/ Wellbeing.

NEWSFLASH: There are 20 auction dollars up for grabs for the first person who can comment on the blog telling us what the four aspects of hauora are... I'll give you the trickiest one: taha hinengaro/ emotional wellbeing.

We have been looking at things that contribute to a healthy lifestyle, like good sleep habits (Remember healthy henry and sleepy susan?), exercise and sport, healthy eating, good oral health (remember our adventures in Saving Tooth Kingdom?), spending time with friends and family, knowing our values and our purpose in life and dealing with our emotions well.

I can't wait to hear your speeches on one of these aspects! Good luck finishing writing them and start practising your presentation in front of the mirror. Remember the things we will be evaluating (on the rubric you created).

Here are some photos to show how we came up with a rubric to evaluate our speeches.

Every ones name is on it.One person has made it to black. That's My brother, Jacob. When you make it to black you have to write an apology letter saying why you did what you did.

This is our traffic light.

We all had to chose one book each at the School Library. The Kapa-Haka group are going to preform a haka to them. The Grampas ... books are very popular such as Grampas cardigan, Grampas shed and Grampas slippers and I chose a book called "Hairy Maclarys Bone"

What makes a good life?

Here's a big and rather important question:

What do you think makes a good life?

I'm interested to hear your thoughts so have a think then post your comment on the wall:

http://www.wallwisher.com/wall/a-good-life

When you've done that have a go at creating a Wordle all about our topic on Healthy Lifestyles. Type in lots of great words that have to do with having a healthy lifestyle then play around with how they are arranged.
