Last day of term by Ms Wills

Phew.... our busy Term 1 is over and we all get 2 weeks holiday! I hope any Rm 16 explorers reading this on their breaks have had a great Easter. We had a busy last week of term with lots of new experiences packed into it. Our journalist was so involved in classroom happenings he forgot to update the blog! Our photographer captured some of the action though, so here are some photos.

About 2 weeks ago the class made it to Japan on our 'Where we are in the world map'. It was a celebration destination so on the last day of term we made sushi. YUM! We also read about what it was like to stay in a Japanese home and what lunch time was like in Japanese schools. Room 16 had a great couple of weeks and have already moved on from Japan to Beijing, Ulan Bataar in Mongolia and then to another Chinese city. GO ROOM 16!!

The last day of term was sadly the last day at Borough School for Peter- a fun and friendly year 6 student who is now off to Invercargill. We will miss him! The students decided we needed to throw a surprise party for him - he was definitely surprised!! At lunch time we ate lots of food that everyone had brought- and our sushi of course! Some of the students had a lot of fun dancing to the music... on their heads! Others had a big pillow fight. It was chaos in the classroom and I thought it was fabulous :-) You'll notice that is was mufti day too- no uniforms!

The last day finished off with our Auction. The students were given 'auction dollars' for great work, behaviour etc. The more auction dollars they had of course the more they were able to buy at our auction. On auction were lots of beautiful things from Japan- the fans proving very popular. Also some things donated from Air New Zealand- like model planes and first class travel bags with toothpaste, eye mask, lip gloss, socks etc. There were also lots of Easter eggs and some timestables bookmarks and random other things. The bidding at times was quite fierce- everyone came away with something they were happy with in the end. Here's the class waiting for the auction to start. The other photo is Peter with his eye mask and black scarf with sumo wrestlers on it!

See you in 2 weeks for more Room 16 happenings: on and off-line!
Ka kite ano,

  1. Dear All

Thank you so much for the letters. The six million dollar question seems to be what is that flower? Well I think it is a 'rose-hip' flower, we have lots of them near the beach.

Oskar I never centre my photos, when I take a shot, I like to think that the background makes the foreground more interesting.

Jess M when the letters arrived we had a South African friend staying with us.

Thanks so much for all of the letters, I really enjoyed reading them, seeing the flags (well done Molly), the pictures and the motorbike stickers.

When oh when will you all be travelling to Lithuania? We could enjoy some Gira and Cepelinai together and go amber hunting on the beach.

    Enjoy your jet-setting.

    Cheers Kel
